Passing by Fat Smitty's
Here is what you see in the parking lot of Fat Smitty's. The burgers here are renowned for their huge size. Chain saw art is a phenomenon of the Pacific Northwest often practiced by loggers.

Weaving the Ribbon
Here is one of the lavender wands I made today in process. The stems are folded down over the lavender heads. They are arranged in twos and spaced evenly before the weaving starts. Every set of 2 stems is constantly being realigned in order to maintain consistent spacing during the weaving process. Here's the link to one on discoverybay.etsy.com
Wand Intensive
The lavender is starting to flower. Now is the time to make lavender wands. Only about three weeks a year. I'll be making one a day if time allows. Maybe I'll be able to make 24 during the three week season. Hope so. Twice as many as I have ever done before. Is my goal too big?

Bald Eagle
This majestic bald eagle lives in my neighborhood. One of his favorite perches is on a very tall tree about 40 feet from my bedroom window. From there he often surveys the bay.

Patchwork Market Bags
This bag is for sale in my Etsy shop DiscoveryBay.etsy.com. I love to shop locally. My favorite store is Sunny Farms. It is just west of Sequim in Carlsborg on Highway 101 on the right side as you go toward Port Angeles.

Scent in the Wind
When I opened my door today, there was a different scent in the wind. Where is it coming from, I asked myself. There are new blossoms on the shrub out side my door. They are tiny and smell great. Have a look.

Dial Up in the Shadow of Mountains
Asked recently how long it takes me every morning to check my emails and my sites, I replied: "Twenty minutes but I get to read 15 pages of my book and drink my coffee while I am waiting." How long does it take you?

Lavender Products
One of the wonderful things about the Lavender Festival is the great variety of lavender products available for sale. Each of the local farms have their own little shop in which they sell such things as sachets, drawer liners, lavender oil, lavender lotion, soap and culinary lavender products.

Fields of Lavender
The variety of lavender in the foreground is in full bloom, while the variety just to the right in the next row has barely begun to bud. This photo was taken at Lost Mountain Lavender Farm which is known locally for growing a great many different varieties of lavender.
A whole field full of lavender is a beautiful sight to behold. This photo was taken at Graysmarsh Farm

Lavender Festival Starts Tomorrow
One of the biggest events here on the North Olympic Peninsula is the annual Lavender Festival in Sequim. It starts tomorrow and continues through Sunday. Last year about 30,000 people came to enjoy the lavender in full bloom.
This summer has been so cool and damp, that the lavender is not yet in full bloom. :(
You can see the little buds are still closed up tight. I'll keep you posted on the festival.
